ABOUT ME

You may reach me with questions or comments

I have always loved books. As a child we moved a lot so books were my best friends. Nancy Drew was my favorite. I was drawn to mysteries then and they are still my favorites.

I especially love children's books. As an artist, I wanted to add words to my art. I still feel that way today. Combining them challenges my creativity. I enjoy the whole process from writing to illustrating, to designing the layout, and using the technology to publish. It all flows together.

As an author, we create characters that become alive under our fingers. Each one unique from the other. A picture can be drawn with the use of words, but for children, less can be better. Learning to read can be hard at first, so using the few words they are familiar with often while introducing new words, encourages them. And more white space on the page helps with their attention span. Of course, plot and storyline must maintain their interest.

I smile when my characters surprise me with something they say or do. If you are a writer, let me know how you approach your writing. If I can help a child learnt to read, I feel successful as an author.

ABOUT ME

I have spent many years in the field of art and design. As an only child in a family that moved a lot, books and drawing were my best friends. Today I am able to take it to a new direction. Creating children's books was like adding a story to my art. Writing, illustrating, and designing a book, just takes my creativity to another level. There is an art to that, and I enjoy it. I have also prepared and published books for others.  If you are interested in my help, email me for more information.

My art leans more toward design than realism. Starting in oils, I quickly went to watercolor for that softer look. Not being happy with what I could do on paper, I began working on fabric, which became my personal style. Below are a few paintings I have prints of from the original watercolors on fabric.

         BUTTERFLIES
Painted as a pair in a circle. Soft colors of blue, pink, and gray with a touch of orange.

         GIRAFFE
Inspired by visits to the Wild Animal Park where my husband and I spent time when we moved to the San Diego area.

         RED BREASTED NUTHATCH
This little bird was a popular visitor to the bird feeder outside my kitchen window during the winters when I lived in Minnesota. This painting was honored to be a competition print for the Professional Picture Framers Association. I was amazed to see how many creative ways the prints were framed.

          MOTHER & DUCKLINGS
These ducks crossed my path one morning when I was golfing. I immediately recorded the experience when I returned home. Like the giraffe, it is painted in shades of brown. It has touches of blue, white and gray.

         BRIGHT FLOWERS
Flowers had been a frequent subject of mine. This was a bolder brighter version of what I usually did.

       RUGS
These three original paintings are a recent attempt at using acrylics. They are larger than I was used to doing. 25-3/4" x 40" painted on foamboard. I was Inspired by the old rugs so popular in Santa Fe.

email me if any of the prints interest you.
